FAQs

What if I’m not happy with the end result?
Since we’ll be working with you at every step, there shouldn’t be any reason you’re not happy.  We are committed to working on your song until you are happy.  If you’re unsure, though, try us out.  If you’re a first-time TuneGopher client, we will refund the deposit for your first song if things aren’t going the way you expected. Please see our Policies for more details.

Who owns the song when we’re done?
Almost all of the work we do as TuneGopher is as a work-for-hire.  This means that you’re hiring us just like you’d hire any other musician or studio and so you keep ALL the rights to your song. No strings attached!

If you’re hiring us to write a custom song or if you’ve asked us to help you actually write the song (lyrics, melody, and chord progression) we will talk with you about publishing and/or royalties.  This will, of course, be decided BEFORE we ask you to make a deposit or sign any agreement.  Again, most of work is simply a work-for-hire.

How good will the quality of the final product be?
The same quality you can expect from any top-quality recording studio. The songs will be ready to put on your CD or played on the radio.

How good does my sketch or the recording I send to you need to be?
Only good enough for us to get the idea.  If you want to just sing the melody into a recorder and send us an mp3,  we’ll figure out the chords and rhythm that should go with your song.  If you have a demo you recorded in your home studio, that’s fine too.  You can even write chords and lyrics on a piece of paper and mail it to us.

I recorded a killer vocal or guitar take at home.  Can you use that in a full production package?
Yes.  While we’re limited to the original quality of your recording, you’d be surprised at what we can do to even a cassette recording.

When/how do I pay?
After you send us your idea, we’ll talk with you about your song to make sure we’re on the same page.  If everything sounds good to you, we’ll send an invoice for an advance payment equal to half of the total.  You can pay by credit card, PayPal, or money order.  We’ll get to work as soon as we receive your payment.  We don’t ask for the balance until you’re completely satisfied with our work.

How long does it take?
We try not to rush things because we strive for the highest quality; however, we also try to be prompt and efficient.  If we have a normal work load, all-inclusive production of one song is usually finished in 2 weeks.
